Coast FIRE by age
Coast FIRE is the amount that, left completely alone, compounds into your full retirement number by the time you get there. Reach it and you can stop contributing entirely and still retire on schedule. You are not retiring early. You are buying the freedom to stop optimising for income.
The number depends almost entirely on how long you have left to compound, which is why it changes so sharply with age. At 25 it is about 7 percent of your target. At 55 it is more than half.
